RULES OF NETBALL
All Umpires should download free and/or purchase a copy of the INF Rules of Netball.  By referring to these rules constantly, an umpire becomes familiar with the terminology, regulations, structure of the court layout, hand signals and all other items related to umpiring a game of netball.

Understanding the rules in conjunction with your on-court umpiring will lead you on the right path to progressing your future umpiring.

ONLINE THEORY & FOUNDATION UMPIRE EDUCATION COURSE
The Online Theory Exam is the course we would most like umpires to do as soon as possible.  A score of 70% or more is required to pass.  Umpires can re-sit the course; however, there is a Netball Victoria Fee each time.

The Foundation Umpire Education Course is required to be completed prior to attempting your C Grade Badge.  When a candidate is considered ready, a Mentor will approach a Tester to confirm readiness, and then in conjunction with you as the umpire, organise to test you for your Badge.  There is no time limit on completing the Foundation Course.  Participants are able to learn in a self-paced environment and can log in and log out as many times as required.  A fee also applies to this course.

Upon successful completion of all modules, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

The course is engaging and interactive with videos to watch and listen to, learning activities and assessments at the end of each module.  The course looks at:

  1. A good umpire
  2. Getting started
  3. Umpiring techniques
  4. Rules in action
  5. Where to now?

Both Courses can be accessed through the Netball Learning Centre,  Netball Learning Centre – Netball Australia or log in via: learning.netball.com.au/login/index.php.  If you are new to the Netball Learning Centre, please follow the prompts to set up your account.

ACCREDITATION UPDATING
Keeping your Badging Accreditation Links: Umpire-update-criteria.pdf (netball.com.au)    UPDATING YOUR ACCREDITATION – Netball VIC

Netball Victoria requires umpires to reach a certain number of points of updating activity to maintain their accreditation at the relevant badge level – refer to the link above.

EXPIRED ACCREDITATION
Once a C, B or A badge accreditation has expired for a period greater than 6 months, you will need to email Netball Australia to apply for a recognition of prior learning via: learning@netball.com.au

Many umpires ask when they will be tested.  Unless a Netball Victoria Accredited Tester feels you are ready to competently umpire a game for your fully allotted time, you will not be put forward for Testing.  Please be patient as the time will come.  Implementing feedback provided by Mentors and asking questions will assist you to improve your umpiring level towards possibly achieving your badge.
